The Goldtokens Blog

Is it a Power Trip or is it Common Sense

This is a short blog on an LGH chat room rule.

* No spam or non-LGH related advertising  (as found in the group charter)

6.3 - Advertising non ADS products, services, companies or begging is not permitted in group chat.

(as found in our TOS)

The focus here is on the no advertising non-LGH related items or discussions part

1. There is an expense involved in creating and maintaining a large group chat room. There are the fees SL requires initially and during the span of the groups existance, there is the fee of contracting and maintaining a group bot such as harvey, the notice and announcment servers, Wili pays for these expenses himself and is not paying these expenses so other games or companies can get the free venue  to be marketed on. It's perfectly reasonable to not want ones hard earned money to pay for some other companies advertising. Most company owned support groups expect the same.

2. There is the confusion  that would be created if someone is posting info about anothr company.. esp if someone new to us reads it and assumes it refers to us.

3. there are the trolls, griefers, and mean people who would take complete advantage of  the room if we allowed it. LGH room is a highly active  room. it gets enough spam and announcments from its own business being posted without the additional non-related BS that would get posted.

Thats all well and good you might say. But all i did was mention a store name where i got some cute shoes from. or a game [propduct piece from yadayada or  yada yada.

It's a matter of where to draw the line. If we allow this and  #A reads it , #A thinks he can do it too and does it a little more extreme. And if we allow #A to mention this store or that shop, all the other shops and stores and venues have to be allowed as well.

So. I said short and I meant it. Thats the reason for the rule.
