Mean People Suck
One of the things I admire in people most is kindness. Kindess to others, especialy when it goes against what the "crowd think" is, is an admirable trait to own. It speaks of a generous nature, empathy, understanding of human nature, bravery, and the ability to see the world through anothers eyes. Kindness isn't the same as being nice. Nice people give with ulterior motive, even if its simply a need to feel better about themselves through the approval of others or by living up to what they feel is the "right" thing to do. Kind people give from a goodness of heart, they are confident people and are comfortable with themselves.
Nice: adj; pleasant or pleasing or agreeable in nature or appearance; socially or conventionally correct; refined or virtuous
Kind: adj; having or showing a tender and considerate and helpful nature; used especially of persons and their behavior; characterized by mercy, and compassion
It's important to define the differences between these two words becasue I am calling on the Menbers of LGH and it's parent companies to adapt an attitude of kindness towards each other that I am confident already exists in the heart of each one.
Let me offer some prime examples where kindness should become the more common response.
A noob asking questions, somebody misunderstanding the rules, we all see times when kindness would be just as easy a response as sarcasm.
Another example, A landowner calls a gold rush and upon arriving at his land we find coins hidden completely under water or placed too high in the air with no means of reaching. We assume this person is a cheater, a breaker-of-rules, up to no good and we verbaly abuse or threaten or report. What would a response based in kindness bring forth? The discovery that this person is new to our gold hunt game and needs help knowing how to set coins up and find the rules and is now so upset at being called a cheat that he leaves the game, never to host another rush or sponsor a buoy.
Kindness asks if you need help before assigning ulterior motives and calling names. Kindness imagines how they would feel in those shoes. Kindness goes against the normal responses and looks deeper to discover the true cause, and then guides by example and words.
Does being kind mean being played? I don't think so. Kind isn't dumb, kind is wise enough to know things arent always as they seem so it looks further than the first reaction.
We as a community have an obligation to show those new to our world a good solid first impression of how generous of heart and nature we are.To open our arms and welcome them in with questions that show we understand they may not know .and are willing to take a few moments to teach - by word, by action, by kindness.....
