Has the Game TOS changed?

Solinde Resident Posted by in Gold Hunt - July 24, 2014, 6:02 pm

I logged on today and went off to hunt gold and was confronted by a sign that tells me I have to join the group or be banned from the land.  The last time I had read the Terms of Service for land owners participating they clearly stated that land with coins rezzed must be generally accessible and that it is forbidden to selective ban some to give others an advantage.  Have the rules changed?  I went and re-read the terms of service and it still states that selectively banning (as is the case when you threaten to ban any hunter who does not belong to a specific group) is contrary to the terms of service.  If the rules have changed, how does one read the new rules?

This is not the first time something like this has happened.  At least one other land I visited a couple of months ago had put coins in places that were restricted to their group members.  Reading the community blogs someone was saying something about having to update profiles or something to play the game on their land (I don't even know quite what they mean by that).  Is this still just a traffic boosting game or is it now also a group member boosting system, and if so how does one ascertain what the current rules are since the Terms of Service page has not been updated to reflect that it is now permissible to either selectively ban to advantage members of a specific group or to rezz coins and gems where only some people (such as members of a specific group) can access them?

Hello. =)  I assure you it is not ok to rez coins where only a selected few are allowed to access them. Please understand that while we are daily visiting lands to check that rules are complied with, there are so many that it would be impossible for staff to catch every infraction as soon as it occurs. We often get hunters themselves contacting us to let us know when they run across such things - and such community involvment is greatly appreciated. =) Thank you for speaking up, no doubt we will be contacting you in-world ☺/

I would love to respond to your concerns , however you have made some vague statements .   No we do not allow a restriction in Gold Hunt that would only allow group members of a closed group  to hunt , with one exception  :  Linden Gold Hunters group , Yes, there  are a handful of lands who do require the LGH tag to be worn in order for the hunter to be able to hunt their lands .   Linden Gold Hunters group   has over 20,000 members and is open to anyone who has not chosen to break our game rules .   If this does not clear up the questions that you raised ,  then please contact a Game Master and let them know th ename of the  land , the name of the required group and any other pertinent information which would enable us to get to the bottom of this .

Thanks for your comments.  I had no idea that there was an exception for the gold hunters group; the Terms of Service do not seem to explicate this.  I hope Wili will clarify this a little more in the changes he is making to the Terms of Service because I know I rely on the Terms of Service to give proper information when recommending the game (often to new users of Secondlife) and I would expect other players of the Gold Hunt do the same.  I'd hate to send someone off with wrong information, get them banned from land and have them think that they are in trouble with Linden Lab (as new users often don't understand how land ownership works in Secondlife); this might give them a bad impression of Secondlife and the Gold Tokens game and I don't want to be the cause of that by giving wrong information.

I will now ensure I warn anyone I recommend the game to about needing to belong to the Gold Hunters group to hunt on some lands and to look out for signs that might tell them this when hunting; I know land owners will tend to have signs out warning us of special rules that apply on their land but new users easily overlook these things because they are often struggling to just move around and keep up with things like incoming chat while trying to tell the difference between local chat and group chat and IM chat etc.

Thanks again for clarifying Terry and Dayz.

The ToS is not all inclusive

Instead of warnings and in depth reviews and analyses, why not keep it simple by pointing new players to the ToS and the main chat group. Tell them that any questions they have can usually be answered in the main chat group.  If you feel that you need further clarification regarding game play rules , etc  Please feeel free to contact a Game Master in world , or file a ticket with our helpdesk  Easy  Peasy  !!
